The Ballet Arts Ensemble
The Ballet Arts Ensemble is a youth company founded to develop young dancers through the art of performing.
The Ballet Arts Ensemble (BAE) and Ballet Arts Tap and Jazz Ensemble (BATJE) allow students to further their dance experience outside their regular class curriculum with additional training and performing opportunities.
Each year, the Ballet Arts Ensemble kicks off the performance season with a Fall Concert at the end of October, exclusively featuring BAE, Jr. BAE, and BATJE company members.
As a non-profit, the BAE and BATJE participate in civic outreach to bring the arts to members of the Northern Virginia Community. The BAE has performed at Curefest for childhood cancer research, the Autumn Remembrance Day for ALS, and have marched in the City of Fairfax Independence Day parade, winning first place in Dance in 2023. BATJE hosts annual in-studio performances for their neighbors at Insight Memory Care Center.
Ballet Arts Ensemble
Students aged 14 and up in Ballet 5/Intermediate Pointe or above are eligible for the Ballet Arts Ensemble. BAE members must take at least six classes, including four ballet/pointe classes, one modern class, and one conditioning class.
Ensemble members perform annually in the Fall Concert and perform at least one company ballet in addition to the Spring story ballet at the end of the year. Dancers may opt in to additional community performances throughout the year as they arise.
Prior participation in the Junior Ensemble is encouraged but not required.
Junior Ballet Arts Ensemble
Sixth-grade students in Pre-Pointe or above are eligible for the Junior Ensemble. Junior Ensemble members must take at least four weekly classes, including at least two ballet/pointe classes and one modern class.
Junior Ensemble members perform annually in the Fall Concert, and may opt in to additional community performances throughout the year as they arise.
Sixth-grade students begin as apprentices. Dancers typically spend two years as Junior company members before being promoted to Ensemble apprentices in the ninth grade.
Tap and Jazz Ensemble
Students in Grade 6 and up in Jazz 2 or above are eligible for the Tap and Jazz Ensemble. Starting members must take at least three weekly classes, including at least one jazz class, and ballet is strongly encouraged. After two years, the class requirement increases to four, and ballet becomes required to progress to the next of the three levels.
BATJE members perform annually in the Fall Concert and at the end-of-year performance, performing at least one number in addition to their regular jazz and tap pieces. Dancers may opt in to additional community performances throughout the year as they arise.
